Alh. Jamil M Hassan is an ex-soldier, banker and entrepreneur with a strong passion for financial inclusion through ‘fair and equitable finance’. He had a five year stint with the Nigerian Air Force where he disengaged as a distinguished Airframe Technologist in 1990, to take up a career in banking. He became a licensed bank Treasurer and Dealer following his joint certification by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and the defunct Money Market Association of Nigeria in 2002.
He is the 4th African to be admitted as an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance London, after his qualification in 2002. He was the bank’s Executive Director in charge of banking services between May 2012 and November 2013, when he resigned to return to Nigeria. Mr. Hassan attended the 8 th Harvard Law School Islamic Finance Forum in 2008, which had a special focus on ‘Islamic Microfinance’ as well the 2 nd all Asia Islamic Banking Conference in Kuala Lumpur in 2010 with similar emphasis.
He is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Program, where he received a certificate in ‘Financial Policy for Private Enterprise Development in 2012, following which he led a group of investors to apply for license to establish the first non interest Islamic Microfinance Bank in Nigeria that began operation in Bauchi in October 2014. Jamil is its pioneer CEO as well as an independent director of the recently licensed ‘Salam Takaful Insurance Company Limited’.
